New container terminal in Gdansk inaugurated
A new container terminal at the Port of Gdańsk in Poland was officially inaugurated on June 6, Belgian contractor DEME announced in a statement.
Baltic Hub T3 adds a third deep-water quay and expanded storage yards, increasing annual handling capacity by 1.5 million TEU to a total of 4.5 million TEU. According to the statement, Baltic Hub is expected to rank among Europe’s largest container terminals once fully operational in the second half of 2025.
The terminal was constructed through a partnership between DEME and Poland-based Budimex, with DEME responsible for dredging and land reclamation. A 36-hectare artificial island was created for the project, forming the base for the 717-metre-long quay with a depth of 17.5 metres. The site will be equipped with seven ship-to-shore cranes and 20 semi-automated yard cranes.
According to DEME, much of the dredged material was reused for land reclamation.
The project was carried out adjacent to the existing T1 terminal, avoiding nearby Stogi Beach, which remained accessible throughout construction.
