The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said on Wednesday it is expanding the world's largest bunkering port's ability to supply a wider range of fuels as shipping firms diversify fuel sources.

MPA will invite bids from companies by end-2026 for licences to operate liquefied natural gas floating storage units (FSU) in Singapore anchorages, expanding storage capacity to meet rising LNG bunkering demand.

MPA, CMA CGM and Singapore LNG Corp signed a memorandum of understanding to explore the use of liquefied bio-methane as a marine fuel.

Singapore will conduct its first ethanol bunkering operation at PSA’s Pasir Panjang Terminal later this week, involving Maersk, Golden Island and PSA Singapore.

To support ammonia bunkering, MPA and Enterprise Singapore have launched a technical reference setting out safety requirements, bunkering procedures, custody transfer standards and competency requirements for personnel.

The Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration (SCMA) is also developing a model contract for ammonia bunkering transactions.

MPA will accelerate the use of electric harbour craft by introducing a two-year grant for early adopters from January 1, 2027.
