The once tainted Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) has begun attracting investments, according to a news report from the Bernama News Agency.
"The efforts in promoting PKFZ as the preferred logistics and distribution hub have started to bear fruit with the emergence of the London Metal Exchange and cotton distribution hubs in PKFZ," Malaysian Transport Minister Ong Tee Keat was quoted as saying.
In reading out Mr Ong's speech, Port Klang Chairman Datuk Lee Hwa Beng said that the potential growth of cargo volumes in PKFZ arising out of the flow of investments and the spin-off activities were expected to contribute substantially to the future throughput of Port Klang and the overall economic development in Pulau Indah, on the back of new initiatives aimed at streamlining port operations.
According to the report, volume increased to 43,032TEU and 1.28 million tonnes of cargo representing a growth of 372 percent and 223 percent.
