Liquid cargo jetty construction set for Malaysia's Johor Port

Published on:

Johor Port (JPB) in Malaysia has begun expansion of its existing liquid jetty facilities as part of a MYR140 million (US$33 million) project.

The expansion will encompass the construction of two new jetties each capable of accommodating 120,000DWT vessels. The completed jetties will also feature cranes, loading platforms, and pipe racks.

JPB expects that the completed facilities will add five million tonnes per annum to the port's current liquid cargo handling capacity.

The project is part of a broader MYR665.6 million (US$157.2 million) program that would also cover the acquisition of new port equipment and the upgrading of terminal operating systems. All works are scheduled to be completed by 2027.

Funding for the MYR665.6 million program will be sourced from internal cash as well as loans totalling up to MYR150 million (US$35 million).

JPB's liquid cargo terminal handles a range of oil products including palm oil. According to the company's website, the port boasts the world's largest palm oil terminal with a total storage capacity of 740,340 tonnes.
