Haifa port, one of Israel's main maritime gateway and main hub ports in the eastern Mediterranean, announced last week that the port handled 1,263,552TEU in 2010, a one percent increase over 2008, the previous record year, and an 11 percent increase over 2009.
The port also noted that a 12 percent increase was registered in the number of containers trans-shipped through the port.
The port expects 2011 to be another record breaking year, due to the full integration of the Carmel terminal and the introduction of new port equipment. Haifa Port will also complete the integration of an advanced Terminal Operating System (TOS) at all the port's container terminals and gates.
