Judge Susana D'Almada Remedios of the Hong Kong District Court has sentenced four men involved in the 2008 fatal collision of the 'Neftegaz-67' and 'Yaohai'.

'Neftegaz-67' Captain Yuriy Kulemesin was sentenced to 38 months in jail; 'Yaohai' Captain Liu Bo and his co-pilot Chun Wah-tak were sentenced to 28 months in prison each while the pilot of the 'Yaohai' was sentenced to three years in prison.

The ship collision between Ukrainian tug, 'Neftegaz-67', and Chinese bulker, 'Yaohai', off Hong Kong's Lantau Islands led to the death of 18 crewmembers.

The ships were steaming towards each other and each expected the other to take evasive action.

Both turned to the same channel and collided at a combined speed of 23 knots on March 22, 2008.
