HD Hyundai Samho begins production of eight new cranes for Gwangyang Port
South Korean manufacturer HD Hyundai Samho has begun production of eight new container cranes to be installed at the automated wharf at Gwangyang Port in South Korea's Jeolla province. A steel cutting ceremony was held on July 11 at the Daebul Industrial Complex.
The project, which has a total cost of KRW205.9 billion ($148.2 million), is for the installation of eight double trolley quay cranes (DTQCs) at berth four of the port's automated wharf phase 3-2. The cranes are scheduled for delivery by January 2029.
The DTQCs are unmanned automated cranes designed to increase the speed of container loading and unloading, the company said. They will have a boom outreach of approximately 68 metres and a lift height of 53 metres, allowing them to handle up to 35 containers per hour, stacked up to 12 levels, on container ships with a maximum capacity of 10,000 TEU.
According to the company, the crane's performance is, "equivalent to the highest specifications used in major hub ports around the world."
