First phase of Soai Rap River dredging begins

Published on:

Vietnam: In late April, the first of three phases of dredging began in the Soai Rap River to allow larger vessels to enter the Hiep Phuoc port complex in the Nha Be District of Ho Chi Minh City.

The Tan Thuan Industrial Park Development Company will dredge the river to a final depth of twelve metres, to allow 70,000-tonne vessels to enter.

Anil Wats, Vice Chairman of DP World, which is an investor in the port complex, said that the dredging project would promote transportation and economic activities between Ho Chi Minh City and other neighbouring cities. By 2015, the port complex will have an annual throughput of 250 million tonnes.
