Global Ports Holding (GPH) expects a new passenger terminal at Ferrol Cruise Port in Galicia, Spain, to be operational by spring 2027.
The project covers 960 square metres at the port’s Espigón Exterior outer quay. Construction is expected to begin in 2026, with a 480-square-metre plot allocated to the terminal’s first phase. The second phase is planned once the quay is fully operational for larger cruise ships.
The Ferrol-San Cibrao Port Authority awarded GPH a 30-year concession to build and operate the terminal. Its board approved the concession in May 2026, and the grant was published in Spain’s official gazette in July under the name Global Ports Ferrol.
Under the concession timetable, GPH was given three months from the grant to submit the first-phase construction project for technical review and six months to begin building, the port authority said in May. The operator’s September schedule continues to place the start of construction in 2026.
Passenger guidance and baggage handling are among the planned services. The authority also envisages gangway provision and a mobile installation to serve ships berthed farther from the main building and assist during simultaneous calls.
“Ferrol represents an important addition to our West Mediterranean and Atlantic portfolio, strengthening our presence in Spain and expanding our reach across the region,” said Francesc Grau, GPH’s regional director for the West Med.
GPH said its network includes 35 ports and serves more than 22 million passengers.
GPH first announced in November 2025 that it had won the concession following a competitive tender. At the time, the company expected the second phase to be completed in 2031. It projected about 23,000 cruise passengers at Ferrol in 2026 and around 80,000 by 2034 under its management.
