Cyclone shuts down Western Australia ports

Three ports in the Pilbara region of Western Australia have been temporarily as the category 1 tropical cyclone Heidi approaches North West coast.

According to the West Australian, Dampier, Cape Lambert and Port Hedland have been shut for the day as the storm closes in on the coast. Moving in a southerly direction, Heidi has registered gusts of 100-130 kilometres per hour.

The port authorities at Dampier, Lambert and Hedland are monitoring the storm's path. Forecasters have indicated it could develop into a category 2 cyclone before reaching land.
