The neighbouring ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles continued to post strong trade numbers into 2011 with 10.8 and 15.3 percent increases respectively in cargo container volume in January compared to the same period a year ago.

The increase came despite the departure of California United Terminals from Long Beach in December. CUT accounted for about 10 percent of all Port of Long Beach's volume.

In 2010, the Port of Long Beach posted the biggest container cargo gains of any port in the US. The port pair combined represent the largest freight complex in the United States.
