Belarus' Transport and Communications Minister Anatoly Sivak and Russia's Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation Maksim Sokolov met in Moscow recently to discuss the potential of joint projects in the transport and ports sector.

Anantoly Sivak updated his Russian counterpart on the current state of the Belarusian transport sector and the projects which implementation is impossible without Russia's involvement.

Sivak stressed that the country needs Russia's support to develop the legal framework in the transport sector and informed on the plans to develop marine and inland water transport where Russian practices might be useful as well.

Maksim Sokolov, for his part, stated that Belarus and Russia have strong friendly relations: "As a rule, we are always able to find a compromise in any issue," the Russian minister said.

He also said that cargo transshipment in Russian seaports had already exceeded the maximum shipped in the USSR ports.

"We continue building up port capacities and are ready to cooperate with Belarus in the marine and inland water transport area," Maksim Sokolov said.
