Bangladesh Navy's shipbuilding arm takes over management of container terminal at Chittagong Port

Published on:

The Bangladesh Navy, through its shipbuilding and ship repair company Chittagong Dry Dock (CDDL), took over the management of the New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) at the Port of Chittagong from local company Saif Powertec earlier this week.

NCT was previously managed by Saif Powertec for 17 years. Operational control of the facility was formally handed over to CDDL at 00:00 local time on Sunday, July 6.

Saif Powertec will still be present at the Port of Chittagong, as it will continue to operate the nearby Chittagong Container Terminal under a different agreement.

A spokesperson for the Chittagong Port Authority said that employees of Saif Powertec who were working at NCT at the time of the handover will continue to do so under CDDL's management.

NCT has been facilitating a significant portion of the containers handled by the Port of Chittagong. Of the more than 3.2 million TEUs that passed through the port in FY2024-25, NCT handled around 44 per cent.
