Japanese ship orders up 150 percent

Published on

Japanese ship export orders grew 149.6 percent to 1,590,210 tonnes in June on a year-on-year basis, according to figures released by the Japan Ship Exporters Association.

In June, Japan received 33 export orders, 30 of which were for bulk carriers. Nearly 50 percent of vessels are scheduled for completion by the end of the 2012 financial year.

Despite the growth, these figures still sit well below the 61 ships ordered in June 2008 and the year-on-year pace of growth is down from last May's 558.9 percent surge.
