Japanese shipbuilders' have recorded a total new order intake of 17 export ships during September for a total of 910,000GRT.
Amongst these orders includes three boxships, one aframax tanker, one LNG carrier, one LPG carrier and 11 bulkers – four handysizes, six panamaxes, one post-panamax, according to the Japan Ship Exporters' Association (JSEA).
Of these vessels, seven have been ordered by overseas owners. Yen-denominated contracts accounted for 10% of the total orders, whilst 15% comprised mixed yen/foreign currency denominated contracts with the remaining 75% foreign currency denominated.
57% of the new export ships are set to be delivered in 2013, with 28% for 2014 and the remaining 16% in 2016.
