At a ceremony in Berne-Motzen, Germany, Greenpeace today launched the third version of its campaigning vessel 'Rainbow Warrior'.

Purpose-built at the Fassmer shipyard near Bremen, 'Rainbow Warrior, measures 57.92 metres in length overall, 11.3 metres across her beam, and 5.0 metres in draught, with a gross tonnage of approximately 838 tonnes. A 55-metre A-frame mast system, created by Dutch naval architecture firm Dijkstra and Partners, can carry 1,260 square metres of sail, helping keep the vessel's  carbon footprint to a minimum and making her one of the most environmentally friendly vessels of her class. The vessel is equipped with state-of-the-art communications equipment and two fast boats and can carry a helicopter.

The construction of 'Rainbow Warrior was paid for by over 100,000 individual donations. The ship will begin life with a thank-you tour of the European coast before making its first ocean crossing to begin campaigning in the Americas.
