Chinese shipbuilder Dalian Shipbuilding Industry may be considering a purchase of STX Dalian, a China-based subsidiary of the ailing Korean shipbuilding group STX.
Earlier in the year, STX Dalian's parent company held talks with creditors to restructure and revamp the shipbuilding facility and its operations.
However, according to Asiasis, such a business plan did not have as favourable an outlook compared to a takeover by DSIC.
At the time of the talks, DSIC had also expressed an interest in establishing a new shipbuilding facility in China.
Thus, a takeover of STX Dalian would fulfill DSIC's ambitions and save both time and money, said Asiasis.
A DSIC spokesperson said the company had not yet made any moves to acquire STX Dalian.
