STX Offshore & Shipbuilding, South Korea, has signed a contract for two plus two 57,300DWT bulkers with Densa, Turkey.

The vessels will be built at STX's Jinhae Shipyard and will be delivered from 2011 onwards.

The vessels will have a length of 190 metres, a beam of 32.3 metres, a height of 18.5 metres and a cruising speed of 14.5 knots.

"Newbuilding orders started to pick up gradually from late last year," Asiasis quoted an STX spokesman as saying.

"As there are an increasing number of shipowners who are returning to newbuilding talks, we expect to secure more new orders this year."

The company said that it planned to focus on offshore plants and specialised vessels as well as research and development projects in 2010.
