'Shinline 11' is the latest in a series of general cargo vessels built by Malaysian shipbuilder Shin Yang Shipyard.
Built to Nippon Kaiji Kyokai classification standards to a design by Japanese naval architects Far East Engineering Consultant, 'Shinline 11' displaces 17,957 tonnes fully loaded and measures in with an overall length of 127.9 metres, a beam of 20.5 metres and a depth of 14.3 metres.
The single-decked design is built with a bulbous bow forward for improved sea-keeping and hydrodynamic performance, ahead of a long, parallel mid-section and plumb stern. Her aft superstructure rises up over five decks and contains comfortable accommodation for the vessel's 23-person crew.
Outfitted with twin cargo holds, she has a total cargo-carrying volume of some 19,250 cubic metres and is equipped with a pair of IHI Marine Engineering-supplied 30-tonne capacity double crane units allowing her to handle cargo efficiently even at rudimentarily equipped ports.
Her aft engine room contains a single STX-MAN-B&W 6S35MC-MK7 main engine that outputs 4,440kW at 173rpm. Driving through to a four-blade Aerofoil type propeller, the propulsion train provides for a maximum speed of 15.0 knots and an economical cruising speed of 13.0 knots. Alongside the main engine, three Cummins KTA19-D (M1) auxiliary diesels are fitted, each outputting 405kW at 1,800rpm to supply the vessel's onboard electrical power.
The ship's compact wheelhouse is outfitted for safe and efficient operation at all times. Separate navigation and communication areas are provided to the rear and the control space has been equipped with a mainly Furuno-based electronics package supplied by Miri Powerline.
To be operated by Kuching, Malaysia-based shipping company Shinline, the vessel will be engaged in general cargo operations throughout Far Eastern and South-East Asian waters. She is set to be joined in service soon by two further sister vessels – 'Shinline 12' and 'Shinline 15' – which are currently nearing completion at the Shin Yang Shipyard.
Shin Yang's shipbuilding division is part of a larger marine corporation that is also heavily involved in the provision of shipping and offshore services. The company diversified into shipbuilding and repair in 1999 with an initial focus on the newbuild and repair of offshore vessels, a focus that has since broadened to encompass larger cargo vessels such as 'Shinline 11' and her sisters.
