CLdN takes delivery of first hybrid Ro-Ro in series
Luxembourg-based shipping company CLdN has taken delivery of a new Ro-Ro vessel built by South Korean shipyard HD Hyundai Mipo.
Chaumine is the first in a new series of two Ro-Ros fitted with IMO Tier III-compliant hybrid propulsion systems consisting of 11MW main engines and 6MW shaft generators. The latter may be used to provide additional propulsive power or to supply electricity for the various onboard systems.
The newbuild has a length of 234 metres, a cruising speed of 16 knots, and a total capacity of 8,000 lane metres of various freight.
Chaumine's sister ship Leonine is in the final scheduled for delivery within the first half of 2025. Both vessels will be operated on CLdN's Northwest Europe routes in response to growing demand between the continent and the UK, particularly Scotland and North East England.
The Ro-Ros may also be modified in the future to accommodate alternative low-emission fuels, fuel cells, or batteries.
