United Global Ro-Ro's newest car carrier departs on maiden voyage

UAE's AD Ports Group has confirmed that a new pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) operated by its joint venture company United Global Ro-Ro (UGR) has departed on its maiden operational voyage.

UGR Zakher is the second in a new series of LNG-powered PCTCs to be delivered to UGR. UGR Al Samha, the series' lead ship, was handed over earlier this year.

Like her earlier sister, UGR Zakher boasts an LOA of 199 metres, a beam of 38 metres, and 12 decks covering a total area of 59,331 square metres and with a total capacity of more than 7,000 CEUs.

The AD Ports Group said the PCTC has been meticulously designed to optimise high and heavy cargo transportation to serve markets across the Middle East, Asia, and the Mediterranean.

The AD Ports Group said the vessel is part of subsidiary Noatum Maritime's broader strategy to expand Ro-Ro services while transitioning towards alternative fuels.
