LNG-powered car carrier delivered to China's SAIC Group

China's Jiangnan Shipbuilding Group has delivered a new pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) to local shipowner the SAIC Group for operation by its subsidiary Anji Logistics.

Anji Commonality is the final one in a series of two PCTCs that includes the 2025-built Anji Prestige.

Like her earlier sister, the newbuild has an LOA of 199.99 metres, a beam of 38 metres, a draught of 10.2 metres , a depth of 15.5 metres, a service speed of 19 knots, and a capacity of 7,800 vehicles including those powered by lithium batteries and hydrogen fuel cells.

The propulsion system includes a WinGD 7X62DF2.1 dual-fuel main engine that can also run on LNG.

The main engine is also fitted with an intelligent control by exhaust recycling (ICER) system, which can help reduce methane slip (when operating in gas mode) as well as emissions of greenhouse gas, particulate matter, and SOx.

With the aid of a special algorithm that can automatically track, cool and recirculate any exhaust gas, the ICER system will ensure that some of the methane in the exhaust gas will be re-combusted for use by the main engine and the generators.
