Italian shipowner Grimaldi Euromed has applied to remove three car carriers from the Italian register following their sale to buyers outside the European Union.
The applications, lodged with the harbourmaster in Palermo, name London-based Bright Flag Shipping as the buyer of Grande Scandinavia (pictured) and Grande Ellade, both of which will be registered in Panama.
Ningbo, China-based Grandtin Holding Group is acquiring Grande Roma, which will be registered in Hong Kong.
The transactions have reportedly been completed or are close to completion.
Grande Scandinavia and Grande Ellade are sister ships built in 2001 by Daewoo Shipbuilding in South Korea. Each has a gross tonnage of 52,589 and can carry 4,598 cars.
Grande Roma was built in 2003 by Uljanik in Croatia. The 196-metre vessel has a gross tonnage of 44,431 and can carry 5,379 cars.
The sale of Grande Roma followed an earlier application, published in October 2025, that named Seoul-based Samjoo Maritime as the prospective buyer. That transaction appears not to have been concluded.
Grimaldi's new application naming Grandtin was received on September 18, 2026.
Later in October 2025, Grande Roma suffered an engine-room fire while transiting the English Channel. She lost propulsion and was towed to Le Havre. The master reported no injuries or pollution.
