VESSEL REVIEW | Trawind Shanghai – Chinese 6,300DWT multi-purpose carrier capable of transporting breakbulk and project cargo

China’s Trawind Shipping and Logistics has taken delivery of a new multi-purpose cargo vessel built locally by Lushun Binhai Shipbuilding and Repair.

The Marshall Islands-flagged Trawind Shanghai is the 18th vessel to join Trawind Shipping’s current active fleet, which recently began expanding to cover international as well as domestic operations.

She is also the first ship in a new series of multi-purpose carriers capable of transporting general, breakbulk, and project cargo.

The second vessel in the series is scheduled for delivery to Trawind Shipping before the end of this year.

Equipped to integrate with a broad range of ports

Classed by China Classification Society, Trawind Shanghai has a length of 103.08 metres (338.19 feet), a beam of 17.6 metres (57.7 feet), a draught of 6.8 metres (22 feet), a depth of 9.3 metres (31 feet), a deadweight of 6,300, and a gross tonnage of 5,303.

Two 60-tonne deck cranes capable of tandem lifting will enable the ship to integrate easily with a broad range of ports including those lacking in cargo handling infrastructure. A box-shaped hold can accommodate oversized cargo measuring 13.5 metres (44.3 feet) long.

Conventional propulsion setup delivering improved efficiency

A Qingdao Zichai Boyang diesel engine will deliver a service speed of approximately 12.5 knots. A low-resistance hull form helps ensure a fuel consumption reduction of as much as 15 per cent compared to vessels of similar size.

Electrical power for the various onboard systems is supplied by a 250kW and three 350kW generators.
