Netherlands-based Royal T Shipyards (formerly Thecla Bodewes Shipyards) has laid the keel of a new dry cargo vessel ordered by Faroese shipping company Navigare Shipping.
The vessel will be the second in a series of 5,600DWT ships being built by Royal T Shipyards for the same customer.
The vessel will be fitted with a diesel-electric propulsion system powered by four generators and paired with a fixed-pitch propeller in a nozzle. Royal T Shipyards said this arrangement will deliver improved fuel efficiency and manoeuvrability.
The ship will be built to IMO Tier III standards and will be fitted with a sewage treatment plant in compliance with environmental regulations in the Baltic region.
Additional features will include a shore power transformer for use when discharging in ports, an electric self-discharger on a wagon for improved cargo handling, and a high-capacity hold to accommodate a wide variety of cargo types.
The vessel will also be equipped with an advanced automation system.
