Shipowner Scorpio Bulkers has awarded a contract for the construction of six Kamsarmax bulk carriers to China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC).
The 82,000DWT vessels will be constructed at CSSC's Shanghai shipyard, with delivery expected from 2Q 2015.
Cruise control
As well as winning the Scorpio bulker order, CSSC's Chairman has also announced the state-owned shipbuilder will construct China's first self-developed luxury cruise ship.
CSSC Chairman, Hu Wenming, said the project was intended to coincide with the evolving global cruise industry, where up to half of the total cruise tourism market will comprise Chinese travellers.
Mr Wenming has also been in talks with the CEO of Carnival Corporation regarding the matter, reports Asiasis.
