Chinese shipbuilder Xinggui Shipping has completed conducting the trial voyage of a new inland cargo vessel ordered by the Guangxi Beibu Gulf International Port Group.
Beigang Canal 001 (北港运河001 Beigang Yunhe 001) has a length of 89.9 metres, a beam of 15.76 metres, a depth of 6.1 metres, a deadweight of 5,000, and a hold capable of transporting either bulk cargo or 207 TEUs.
The ship is powered exclusively by LNG, resulting in NOx emissions of as much as 92 per cent and SOx and particulate matter emissions of nearly 100 per cent each year compared to vessels that run on conventional fuels.
The ship also features a number of intelligent systems including those for engine room monitoring, berthing and unberthing, autonomous navigation, and energy consumption monitoring.
The vessel is equipped with shaft power meters that monitor and collect real-time data on operating parameters such as shaft power, gas, and electricity usage, intelligently optimising navigation conditions and reducing energy consumption.
The core equipment in the engine room enables one-second level data collection and instant fault alerts.
Relying on an integrated ship-shore communication system, the data collection system can transmit navigation video and equipment operation data in real time in two directions, supporting precise shore-based scheduling.
Beigang Canal 001 is classed by China Classification Society. The vessel will be operated primarily along the 130-kilometre Pinglu Canal, which will be opened to public shipping in September.
