Imabari yard Shin Kasado delivers new Handymax bulker

Japan's Shin Kasado Dockyard, a subsidiary of Imabari Shipbuilding Group, has delivered a new Handymax bulk carrier, Doric Samurai on June 24.

The Panama-flagged vessel has a deadweight tonnage of 63,598 and a gross tonnage of 36,139. It has a length of 199.9 metres, a beam of 32.2 metres, and is classed by Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (NK). It is powered by one MAN 6S50ME-C9.7 main engine, giving it a service speed of approximately 14 knots.

The ship's design complies with the common structural rules for bulk carriers and oil tankers. It features four deck cranes and is designed to carry a wide variety of bulk cargoes, including those compliant with the international maritime solid bulk cargoes (IMBC) and dangerous goods (IMDG) codes.

According to the builder, Doric Samurai meets energy efficiency design index (EEDI) Phase 3 requirements ahead of schedule. It is equipped with a ballast water treatment system and various energy-saving devices, including a high-efficiency propeller and low-friction hull paint.
