Imabari Shipbuilding delivers 182,000DWT Capesize bulk carrier

Published on:

Japanese shipbuilder Imabari Shipbuilding has delivered a new 182,028 DWT Capesize bulk carrier, Cape Wisteria, from its Saijo shipyard last June 17.

The Panama-flagged vessel measures 291.9 metres in length with a beam of 45 metres. According to the builder, the ship's design complies with the common structural rules for bulk carriers and oil tankers and represents the largest ship size allowed to enter the Port of Dunkirk. Its cargo holds are designed for high-density cargoes such as iron ore.

The vessel is powered by a single MAN B&W 7S60ME-C10.6 main engine and has a service speed of approximately 13.7 knots. For improved efficiency, it is fitted with energy-saving devices near its propeller and uses low-friction paint on the hull. The ship meets the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) Phase 3 requirements ahead of schedule.

To comply with emissions regulations, the vessel is equipped with an exhaust gas purification device, or scrubber, for sulphur oxides (SOx). For nitrogen oxides (NOx), it uses an exhaust gas recirculation system for its main engine and a selective catalytic reduction device for its power generation units.
