Greek operator Icon Energy takes delivery of Ultramax bulker
Athens-based dry bulk shipping company Icon Energy has taken delivery of the 2020-built, scrubber-fitted Ultramax bulker Charlie on June 21. The vessel was bareboat chartered-in from an unaffiliated third party.
Upon delivery, the Charlie immediately commenced a time charter with an unnamed dry bulk operator for a period of nine to twelve months. The charter has a floating daily hire rate linked to the Baltic supramax index, and Icon Energy will also receive a share of the fuel cost savings generated by the vessel’s scrubber.
Ismini Panagiotidi, Icon Energy's Chairwoman and Chief Executive Officer, stated that the vessel will immediately contribute to the company’s revenues. She also noted that the company remains focused on further expanding its fleet through, "disciplined and opportunistic acquisitions".
The 199-metre long, 32.2-metre wide bulk carrier was formerly named Servette. It has a deadweight tonnage of 63,668 and was built by Chinese yard Nantong Xiangyu Shipbuilding and Offshore Engineering.
