Baltic dry bulk index hits six-week low on Capesize decline

The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk freight index fell to a six-week low on Tuesday, weighed down by a drop in Capesize rates.

The main Baltic index lost 68 points, or 2.2 per cent, to 3,002 points, its lowest level since August 25.

The Capesize index lost 195 points, or four per cent, to 4,638 points, its lowest level since August 21.

Average daily earnings for Capesize vessels fell $1,769 to $38,561.

The Panamax index gained two points, or 0.1 per cent, to 2,366 points.

Average daily earnings for Panamax vessels gained $21 to $21,294.

Among smaller vessels, the supramax index gained five points, or 0.3 per cent, to 1,795 points.
