The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk freight index rose to a one-week high on Tuesday, helped by stronger rates across all vessel segments.
The main Baltic index rose 33 points, or about one per cent, to 3,432 points, highest since September 14.
The Capesize index rose 53 points, or 0.9 per cent, to 5,892 points.
Average daily earnings for Capesize vessels increased by $488 to $49,938.
However, iron ore futures fell, snapping a four-day gaining streak, as a weak near-term demand outlook weighed on the market and a stronger yuan added more pressure on the yuan-denominated contract.
The Panamax index rose 44 points, or 1.9 per cent, to 2,299 points.
Average daily earnings for Panamax vessels gained $390 to $20,687.
Among smaller vessels, the supramax index inched up five points, or 0.3 per cent, to 1,776.
