For the past decade, China's state-owned shipyard China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) has made significant achievements in the field of military and civilian shipbuilding and is looking towards a bright future.
With the establishment of modern shipbuilding subsidiaries like Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding and CSSC Shanghai Changxing Shipbuilding Base, the new building output of CSSC group has grown from less than two million DWT to 18.6 million DWT, with the company occupying the number two spot in global shipbuilding rankings for the past six consecutive years.
Now capable of building ultra-large containerships of sizes registering over 10,000TEU, the company has diversified into the offshore sector, able to build large LNG carriers, FPSOs, and 3,000 metre deepwater semi-submersible drilling platforms.
With the global shipping industry still in significant downturn, CSSC is targeting the high-end, high-tech and high-value-added ship constructions required for the offshore oil and gas sectors.
