China's Fujian shipyards record 33 per cent YOY growth in January-July exports; bulk carriers, Ro-Ros take top spots

From January to July 2025, exports by shipyards in China's Fujian province reached CNY11.67 billion (US$1.62 billion), indicating a year-on-year increase of 33.7 per cent.

In July, Fujian's ship exports reached CNY2.89 billion (US$400 million) for a year-on-year increase of 26 per cent, setting a new monthly record for export volume.

Customs data show that bulk carriers and Ro-Ro vessels are the two leading vessel types among Fujian’s ship exports, with totals of of CNY4.71 billion (US$660 million) and CNY3.16 billion (US$440 million) from January to July, respectively, representing year-on-year increases of 12.6 per cent and 150 per cent.

Together, the bulk carriers and Ro-Ro vessels account for nearly 70 per cent of Fujian’s total ship exports during the same period.

During the same period, liquid cargo ship exports saw strong growth, totaling CNY1.72 billion (US$240 million), a year-on-year surge of 4,010 per cent, accounting for 14.7 per cent of Fujian’s total ship export value in the same period.

From January to July, Fujian province's shipbuilders exported ships worth CNY3.07 billion (US$430 million), CNY2.02 billion (US$280 million), and CNY1.16 billion (US$160 million) to Southeast Asia, Latin America and the Middle East, respectively, representing year-on-year increases of 320 per cent, 100 per cent, and 22.3 per cent, respectively.

Together, the three regions accounted for 53.6 per cent of Fujian’s total ship exports during the same period.

State-owned enterprises continue to be responsible for the bulk of Fujian's ship exports. Data showed that from January to July 2025, Fujian’s state-owned enterprises exported ships worth a total of CNY10.43 billion (US$1.45 billion), a year-on-year increase of 30.6 per cent, accounting for nearly 90 per cent of Fujian’s total ship exports during the same period.
