SFL Corporation has agreed a charter extension for six 15,400 TEU container vessels with Hapag-Lloyd for an additional seven years.

The contracts extend charter coverage for the vessels until between 2035 and 2036 at firm rates reflecting the current strong container market, the company announced on September 11.

The new time charter agreements will add approximately $750 million to the fixed-rate charter backlog of SFL Corporation, raising the total backlog to approximately $4.6 billion.

According to company figures, this backlog includes fully owned vessels and rigs as of June 30, subsequent transactions, and 100 per cent of four partially owned 19,000 TEU container vessels managed by the firm.

Commenting on the transaction, Chief Executive Officer of SFL Management Ole B. Hjertaker confirmed that more than $1 billion has been added to the charter backlog during 2026.

Hjertaker remarked that the company was pleased to further strengthen its long-term relationship with Hapag-Lloyd.
