Rio Brasil Terminal (RBT), International Container Terminal Services' (ICTSI) operation in the Port of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, has strengthened its cabotage connectivity with the addition of Norcoast’s regular service.
The service handles domestic cabotage and feeder cargo, providing greater transport options for cargo moving to and from Rio de Janeiro. ICTSI said it also connects the state with the Manaus Free Trade Zone and other Brazilian ports, offering industries and clients greater operational flexibility, predictability and more efficient logistics alternatives.
RBT’s location and intermodal connections also support cargo originating in Rio and strategic regions such as Minas Gerais, the interior of São Paolo and Greater São Paolo. The terminal’s rail connections, including the Floriano (RJ) and Suzano (SP) and São José dos Campos (SP) rail ramps, provide access to these markets and are supported by the RBT’s recent expansion in the Alto Tietê region.
Norcoast’s call at RBT connects Rio de Janeiro to a broader cabotage network that includes the ports of Manaus (Amazonas), Pecém (Ceara), Suape (Pernambuco), Salvador (Bahia), Santos (SP), Paranaguá (Parana), and Itajaí (Santa Catarina).
For Norcoast, RBT’s inclusion in its regular route is part of its strategy to expand cabotage reach by growing its portfolio and network. ICTSI said the company is keeping pace with demand from sectors such as consumer goods, steel and beverages, while seeking to create value through increased supply, the encouragement of cabotage and regional development.
