Eimskip to sell containership amid sailing schedule review

Published on

Icelandic shipping company Eimskip has reached an agreement to sell the 2014-built containership Lagarfoss to Portuguese company Grupo Sousa. The company will record a loss on the sale of approximately €3.4 million in the third quarter of 2025.

The vessel is expected to be delivered to its new owner in Reykjavík between August and September.

Eimskip stated the decision to sell is partly based on favourable market conditions for secondhand vessels and potential adjustments to its sailing system. The company noted its sailing system has been under review following a temporary shutdown announcement by customer PCC Bakki, whose cargo volume was described as the "backbone" of Eimskip‘s specialized coastal shipping in Iceland.

Upon delivery of the vessel, changes will be made to the company‘s coastal sailing schedule in Iceland, which will result in fewer sailings. Eimskip's fleet will be reduced by one vessel, at least temporarily, and the company aims to offer the crew of Lagarfoss employment on its other vessels.
