The crew of a containership managed by Germany's Reederei NSB came to the aid of a fishing boat that had gone adrift due to fuel starvation off the western coast of Panama.
On Monday, October 5, the Liberian-flagged Conti Makalu was en route to Panama when it was requested by local authorities to render assistance after the crew of the fishing boat Angel del Mar sent out a radio message asking for help.
The containership crew soon sighted the drifting fishing boat, mooring alongside it after radio contact was made with the four people on board.
The fishermen said they were all in good health but that they had run out of fuel, lube oil, food, and drinking water.
The crew of Conti Makalu then provided the fishermen with eight days' worth of fuel and other supplies to enable them to restart their boat's engine and sail safely back to their homeport.
The containership has since resumed its voyage to Panama.
