A Japanese owner took delivery of a new containership and formally named a sister vessel within a span of seven days while a Finnish operator has expanded its own feeder fleet with a recent acquisition. A Norwegian owner has meanwhile selected a Chinese yard for the construction of three large ships in a series.
Maersk names lead ship of new dual-fuel container vessel series
A.P. Moller – Maersk held a naming ceremony for its newest container vessel at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries’ (HHI) yard in Ulsan, South Korea, on Wednesday, June 18.
Berlin Mærsk is the 14th dual-fuel newbuild entering the Maersk fleet and the first vessel in a new series of six containerships.
ONE names new 13,900 TEU containership
Ocean Network Express (ONE) held a naming ceremony on June 18 for its newest containership, ONE Singapore. The event took place at the Hiroshima shipyard of builder Imabari Shipbuilding in Japan.
The 13,900 TEU vessel is the sixth in a series of twenty newbuilds for ONE. The ship, which is flagged in Singapore and classed by Lloyd’s Register, is designed to be ready for future conversion to run on methanol or ammonia fuel.
Finland's Langh Ship takes delivery of second feeder vessel in series
Finnish shipping company Langh Ship recently took delivery of a new container vessel during a ceremony in Zhoushan, China.
Lene is the second unit in a new series of three 1,200TEU feeder containerships built by PaxOcean Zhoushan. Design work was undertaken by Langh Ship in collaboration with China State Shipbuilding Corporation subsidiary Shanghai Merchant Ship Design and Research Institute.
ONE receives new 13,900TEU boxship from Japan's Imabari
Japanese shipbuilder Imabari Shipbuilding Group delivered ONE Sapphire, a new 13,900 TEU containership for operator Ocean Network Express (ONE), on June 12. The vessel was constructed at the company’s Marugame shipyard.
The Singapore-flagged vessel has a length of 335.9 metres, a beam of 51 metres, and a service speed of approximately 22 knots.
Norway's Blystad taps Chinese yard for containership newbuildings
Norwegian shipping company the Blystad Group has placed orders for three new container vessels in a series to be built by state-owned Penglai Zhongbai Jinglu Ship Industry in China.
The 3,000TEU ships are scheduled to be delivered to the Blystad Group by 2027 under the US$129 million contract. Once in service, the vessels will be among the largest in the owner's fleet.
