The Australian Shipowners Association (ASA) has congratulated the Australian government on its re-election to the IMO's Council.
Australia is one of a number of states that were recently elected to be members of the Council for the 2012-2013 biennium, at the 27th session of the IMO Assembly in London.
"The re-election is a great result for the government," said ASA chairman Noel Hart. "The commitment of the Gillard government to the shipping reforms announced by minister Albanese is a testament to the importance of the shipping industry to Australia."
