Сargo handling statistics in January-May 2017

According to data from the Ukrainian Seaports Authority (USPA), in January to May 2017, cargo handling volumes in Ukrainian seaports amounted to 55.6 million tons, 4.5 per cent more than in the same period of 2016.

Export cargo volumes amounted to 42.97 million tons (increase by 4.7% compared to the same period in 2016), import – 7 million 880 thousand tons (increase by 14%).

Transit cargo handling reached 4 million 309 thousand tons (decrease by 1.9%), cabotage – 448 thousand tons (-49.9% compared to the same period last year).

The largest volumes of cargo handling showed the ports of “Yuzhny” – 18.47 mio tons (+6.6% compared to the same period last year), Odessa – 10.41 mio tons (+1.6%), Mykolaiv – 9.77 mio tons (+6.5%). The largest growth was recorded in the port of “Olvia”, which amounted to 46.2% with a total volume of 3 million tons.

Most of cargo types showed the growth of handling. Thus, the total volume of liquid bulk cargo handling increased by 12.1% amounting to 4.770 mio tons. The leaders in liquid cargo handling are the ports of “Yuzhny” – 1.407 million tons (-14%), the port of Mykolaiv – 1.334 million tons (+32.6%), and Odessa seaport – 0.97 million tons (+23.4%) .

The total volume of dry cargo reached 40.31 million tons, which is 8.7% more compared to 2016. The leaders in dry cargo handling are the port of “Yuzhny” – 16.51 million tons (+8.1%), Mykolaiv – 7.46 million tons (+10.4%), Chornomorsk – 4.74 million tons (-6%) and Odessa – 4.29 million tons (+11%).

Container handling for the reporting period increased by 2.4% and totaled 245,522 TEU, of which 210,255 TEU were handled in Odessa seaport.

During the period, Ukrainian seaports handled 4,607 vessels, which is 6.6%less than in the same period last year.
