Bermuda-based Teekay has accepted the delivery of its first icebreaker LNG carrier newbuilding, Eduard Toll.

Eduard Toll is the fourth of 15 Arc7 LNG carriers being built for the Yamal LNG project and Teekay’s first of six LNG carrier newbuildings contracted to service the project.

The 172,000-cubic-metre vessel was constructed at Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering in South Korea.

Over the past month, Eduard Toll has independently travelled via the Northern Sea Route, breaking ice 1.8 metres thick at speeds of five knots astern without the support of an ice breaker. She arrived at the Sabetta terminal ahead of schedule.

She is named after Baron Eduard Toll, a Russian geologist and explorer who pioneered Russian polar expedition and dedicated his life to the discovery of the Arctic.
