South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) is set to form a technical council along with global organisations with the objective of conducting research studies into new and developing technologies related to new vessel construction.

DSME’s key partners on the project will include the Massachussets Institute of Technology (MIT), Seoul National University, the University of Michigan, Strathclyde University in the UK, as well as research institutes in Norway, Sweden, Italy, and Germany. Classifications societies ABS, DNV, Lloyd’s Register, Bureau Veritas, and the Korea Register will also participate.

The project partners will focus on areas that also include compliance with environmental regulations and autonomous vessels.
