Singapore-based shipping company Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS) is investigating an incident wherein one of its managed product tankers was reportedly struck by a projectile while underway off the coast of Oman.

Preliminary reports indicate the Liberian-flagged Pacific Zircon, carrying a cargo of gas oil, was hit by a projectile of unknown origin approximately 241 kilometres off the coast of Oman at about 15:30 local time on Tuesday, November 15.

EPS said it has been in communication with the vessel and there are no reports of injuries or pollution. All the crew are safe and accounted for.

The company confirmed there is some minor damage to the vessel’s hull but no spillage of cargo or sign of water ingress.

EPS did not provide details on the type of projectile involved in the incident.
