Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has won an order for two LNG-fuelled very large crude carriers (VLCCs), the company said in a regulatory filing on Tuesday, April 14.

The vessels will be built for an unnamed Bermudan shipowner for a total cost of ₩253.6 billion (US$209.2 million). Both are expected to achieve SOx, NOx, and CO2 emissions reductions of as much as 99, 85, and 25 per cent, respectively, compared to similarly-sized vessels running on conventional diesel fuel.

The VLCCs are expected to be delivered by April 2022.
