Russia’s first Project 00216M tanker starts sea trials

The Astrakhan Shipbuilding Production Association of Russia’s United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) has begun conducting sea trials of a new product tanker ordered by local company Mashpromlizing on behalf of Volgotrans.

Portnews is the first chemical tanker to be built under Project 00216M. Upon completion, it will be capable of transporting crude oil and other petroleum products in inland waters as well as in the open sea.

The vessel will have a length of 141 metres, a beam of 16.7 metres, a draught of 4.6 metres, and a speed of 10 knots. Three different types of product cargo can be carried simultaneously on a single voyage.
