Japanese firms unveil plans for zero-emission coastal tanker

Asahi Tanker, Exeno Yamamizu Corporation, Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL), and Mitsubishi Corporation have agreed to create a strategic partnership to develop fully electric vessels.

The partnership’s newly established company, e5 Lab, plans to put the world’s first zero-emission tanker in service by mid-2021 as one of its first objectives.

The tanker will be a coastal vessel powered by large-capacity batteries and will operate in Tokyo Bay.
