Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL), through Singapore-based subsidiary Phoenix Tankers, has entered into an agreement with Namura Shipbuilding Company for the construction of two very large gas carriers (VLGCs) optimised for transporting LPG and ammonia.

Namura will build the vessels with technical cooperation provided by Mitsubishi Shipbuilding. Delivery of both newbuildings is scheduled for 2024.

The VLGCs will each have an LOA of 230 metres, a beam of 36.6 metres, a draught of 12 metres, a total cargo capacity of 87,000 cubic metres, and a Mitsui-MAN dual-fuel engine that can also operate on LPG.
