Belgian shipowner Exmar took delivery of a new very large gas carrier (VLGC) on Wednesday, September 22.

Flanders Pioneer is the second in a series of LPG carriers built for Exmar by China’s Jiangnan Shipyard.

This recent delivery comes less than three months after that of earlier sister Flanders Innovation.

The newbuild has a total cargo capacity of 88,000 cubic metres and dual-fuel engines that can also operate on LPG. Exmar said this propulsion arrangement can reduce CO2 emissions by as much as 38 per cent compared to the IMO reference lines for VLGCs.
