MOL LNG tanker rescues distressed Filipino fishermen

An LNG tanker operated by Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) rescued four Filipino fishermen who had been stranded at sea for five days on Friday, July 5.

The Bahamas-flagged LNG Pioneer was sailing off the coast of Davao Oriental province in the southern Philippines when it came across the distressed crew floating in the water aboard what was left of their fishing boat.

The rescued individuals were brought aboard the tanker and were later turned over to the crew of the Philippine Coast Guard response vessel BRP Cape San Agustin. They have since been brought to shore to receive medical treatment.

The survivors said they were fishing in the waters off Mati town in Davao Oriental on June 30 when strong waves tossed their vessel about and caused it to strike a nearby fish marker buoy.

The fishermen added that the collision with the buoy caused their boat to split into two and sink immediately.
